High-performance soft film rust preventative for cast iron and ferrous metals. Forms a dense protective layer using premium base oils and advanced inhibitors. Ideal for machining, storage and long-term protection of precision components. Resists humidity, oxidation and contamination.
ST-073 Soft Film Rust Preventative Oil – Custom Formula for All Cast Iron Parts
Cast iron components feature abundant micro pores on the surface, which easily trap moisture and salt fog, leading to hidden internal rust during transit and storage. To resolve this common pain point for foundry and machinery manufacturers, ROLITOM developed ST-073 soft film rust preventative oil, a targeted anti-corrosion solution designed only for cast iron and other ferrous metal castings.
Formulated with premium base oil compounded with high-efficiency rust inhibiting additives and proprietary film-forming agents, this oil builds a dense, tight protective layer covering every surface of cast iron workpieces. It delivers complete anti-rust coverage throughout the whole production cycle, including mid-stage machining turnover, cross-regional transportation and long-term warehouse sealed storage, making it the ideal pick for high-precision cast iron parts requiring stable long-term anti-corrosion performance.
Professional lab corrosion testing confirms reliable protective capacity in high-salt and high-humidity environments:
Salt spray test under 5% sodium chloride solution: More than 48 hours of effective anti-rust performance
Constant damp heat aging test: 360 hours of continuous Grade A anti-corrosion protectionFor manufacturers exporting cast iron products via sea freight, this product greatly reduces defective rates caused by rust stains during long ocean transportation.
Most universal anti-rust oils only form a superficial barrier on metal surfaces, failing to block corrosion inside cast iron’s tiny holes. ST-073 carries strong penetrating power to sink into micro pores, fully filling internal gaps and forming a sealed barrier to cut off moisture and corrosive substances, eliminating hidden rust sources fundamentally.
With balanced anti-salt mist and moisture-proof components, ST-073 maintains stable protective performance under extreme working conditions, including humid coastal warehouses, rainy land transportation and long-term temporary open-air storage. Its applicable temperature range spans from -20°C to 120°C, without film cracking or protective failure under drastic temperature changes.
The semi-transparent soft film formed after air drying will not harden on casting surfaces. When proceeding to subsequent cutting, grinding or assembly procedures, workshop staff can simply wipe away the protective film with regular mineral solvents. No complicated high-temperature degreasing or special cleaning chemicals are required, cutting down daily labor and cleaning material expenses significantly.
All test indicators below are measured under standardized laboratory environments, only for customer reference and cannot be used as binding product specifications.
| Test Item | Parameter |
| Kinematic Viscosity (40°C) | 8–10 mm²/s |
| Film Type | Soft, semi-transparent |
| Drying Time (25°C) | 30–60 minutes |
| Operating Temperature Range | -20°C ~ +120°C |
| Recommended Application Methods | Immersion, Spraying, Brushing |
Machine tool cast bases and guide rails, automobile engine blocks, gearbox housings, hydraulic valve bodies, pump casings, cast iron pipelines and connecting flanges.
Inter-process workshop turnover protection: Delivers 3–6 months stable rust shielding for semi-finished castings waiting for secondary machining
Overseas marine export protection: Provides 6–12 months continuous salt mist resistance for finished cast iron goods loaded into shipping containers
Long-term sealed warehouse storage: Permanent anti-rust treatment for finished cast iron products waiting for bulk delivery
Never mix ST-073 with other types or brands of rust preventative oil; mixing will break the original anti-corrosion formula and sharply weaken protective effects.
Ensure cast iron workpieces are fully dried before application; residual surface water will trigger film blistering and local rust failure.
Store all sealed barrels in cool, well-ventilated warehouses, and keep products far away from open fire, welding equipment and high-temperature heat sources.
Two mainstream packaging sizes are offered to cover small trial orders and mass bulk purchase demands:
Small capacity barrel: 18L per barrel
Large industrial bulk drum: 200L per drum
We accept customized packaging capacity negotiation for long-term cooperative foundries and machinery processing factories; contact our sales team to submit personalized packaging requirements.
Q1: Can ST-073 be used on regular steel parts besides cast iron?
A: This formula is optimized for porous cast iron structures, and it can also deliver basic anti-rust protection for ordinary ferrous metal parts. It is not recommended for aluminum, copper and other non-ferrous alloy materials.
Q2: How long can a single application protect cast iron castings from rust?
A: The valid protection cycle varies based on storage environment: 3–6 months for indoor workshop turnover, 6–12 months for sealed container sea export transportation.
Q3: Do I need special heavy-duty degreasers to remove the soft anti-rust film?
A: No special industrial cleaning fluid is necessary. Conventional mineral cleaning solvents can quickly wipe off the soft film without leaving residual stains on casting surfaces.
Q4: Is small sample trial mandatory before mass purchasing?
A: We strongly advise all customers to conduct small-batch application tests first. The actual anti-rust performance will be affected by workpiece surface cleanliness, operation techniques and storage humidity. Free sample testing service is available upon request.
